Girls on the Run also welcomes our new Fall Program and Race Sponsor: Alpine Bank!
Welcome to Girls on the Run of Western Colorado-- a life-changing, non-profit prevention program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Locally, we also strive to insure that our programs are affordable and accessible for all girls. Our programs are offered in communities throughout Western Colorado.
Girls on the Run is an after school program that uses the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Through interactive activities, such as running, playing games, and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls. The program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health. During the 10-week program, girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement, and a foundation in team building, to help them become strong, contented and self-confident young women. Coaches teach specific life lessons such as dealing with body image and the media, resisting peer pressure, making healthy decisions and contributing to the community. Along the way, the girls train together to walk or run a 5K (3.1 mile event). Girls on the Run of the Grand Valley is an Affiliate/Independent Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of over 170 locations across the United States and Canada.
Congratulations to our Solemates runners who completed the first annual Thelma and Louise Half Marathon in Moab on May 12th. It was a great event - and the beginning of hopefully a lot of running and races for some of our Solemates and the continuation of being a runner for many other. It was an amazing event and we encourage all older girls to think about participating in next year's Thelma and Louise women's only half marathon in Moab. Thanks also to our Solemates participants for raising money for Girls on the Run!

Thanks to the 650+ runners, 50+ volunteers and many race sponsors that contributed to a successful GOTR 5K in Steamboat. The weather cooperated for the run, not as much for the travel, and all of our GOTR participants completed a 5K on a brisk late fall morning. Thanks to Casey Barnett who captured great moments, strong girls and beautiful scenery on camera.
Girls on the Run would like to thank our 2012 Spring Program Sponsor:

Their support, along with the support of our other sponsors and donors across Western Colorado, allows us to maintain an affordable and accessible program for all girls throughout Western Colorado.
